Student Success Story – Tayla Martin

Tayla Martin Business Administration

Some people are just born managers and love to organise things and Australis College student Tayla Martin is no exception.

Like great self-confessed organiser and former Facebook and Google executive Sheryl Sandberg, Tayla Martin went through school always organising events and other activities, and since that age has always wanted to move into an administrative role within an organisation.

After completing her Australis College Diploma in Business Administration in record time it is clear Ms Martin has a knack for administration.

Ms Martin said she loves the feeling of being under pressure and found the real-life case studies and scenarios in the course kept her motivated and interested in the study material, and as soon as she would complete one assessment she would begin on another.

Ms Martin is also completing a Diploma of Community Services with TAFE, as well as two other Certificates, but said if she had found out about Australis College sooner, she would have done both Diplomas at Australis College.

Ms Martin said, “Even though I started my Community Diploma at TAFE, I have managed to find, start and finish my Australis College Diploma before my TAFE Diploma. The flexible blended learning approach really suited my lifestyle, and the support was always close-by. TAFE is not flexible.”

“My Trainer Julie Aspin was great, always supportive, she was really focussed on my learning and was so responsive to my questions. Whenever I sent an email to Julie she would always get back to me within a couple of hours. This meant that I could maximise my study time and avoided any lengthy delays, “Ms Martin added.

“I was really worried I was going to be left in the deep end and was unsure on whether I would find study hard. The study wasn’t easy but it was manageable and the trainers made it easier to study,” she said.

The blended learning approach was another highlight for Ms Martin, it gave her the flexibility and the portability she needed.

“My partner and I move around a lot with his defence work so I needed a study option that could move with me if we need to move and I was really excited after completing my first assignment and it really motivated me to get through the diploma,” said Ms Martin.

The study at Australis College also had an unintended but positive effect on Ms Martin. She found as her study progressed it gave her more confidence and self-belief.

“My study success at Australis College gave me confidence personally but also gave me confidence in other study that i was undertaking. It made me feel good about myself. For a while there I was wondering what I was going to do after high school, and I was on that thing where you are thinking what am i going to do with my life, where am i going and so Australis College really showed me what i was capable of and gave me a pathway.

When conducting her research into Australis College, like AFL star and current Australis College student Nathan Wright, Ms Martin found that the College was a ‘legit’ study option, who were upfront and honest and with a professional reputation and expert trainers.

“I knew there were some providers that ‘scammed’ people so I was really wary of who I chose, Australis was always honest, they were upfront about costs, upfront about course details and what trainers would deliver the course. They were actually more concerned about my education than the money. They gave me the assurance I needed to make my decision, and I am so glad about the choice I made.”

When asked about her success Ms Martin did have some advice for students who are currently studying or thinking about undertaking study.

“The trick to study is keeping on top of your work and doing a few hours a day. The worst thing you can do is just leave them there and let them get on top of you. I enjoyed the whole Diploma and I just loved doing the assignments. The assignments related to real life  and real scenarios that related directly to the workplace and what I what I do in the workplace.”
