What to look for when choosing a financial services course.

Given the high level of compliance and regulation in the financial services industry, it is important you do your research on what is included when choosing a training provider. For financial planning and mortgage broking, some of the major factors to consider are:

  • Are the trainers experienced and have they previously worked in the industry as a planner or broker.
  • Will the course provide you with not just the “training package” outcome but the practical on the ground skills and confidence you need to succeed
  • Is the provider recognised and/ or accredited by professional bodies- such as the Finance Brokers Association of Australis (FBAA), the Mortgage and Finance Association of Australia (MFAA) or the FINSIA
  • Is the RG146 compliant for ASIC licensing
  • Does your training provider have professional connections with industry employers, such as the major lenders, loan aggregators and wealth management companies
