Did you know, you may be able to reduce the time it takes to get your qualification, via a process called Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). RPL recognises the skills and knowledge you’ve gained through work and life experiences and maps those against the criteria for a unit of competency or the full course.
Example: Mary has worked on company projects for her company for the last 5 years. During that time Mary has learned the in-house project management process used by her company, she has undertaken in-house project process courses and she has been involved in most aspects of running a project. Mary is a great candidate for gaining her Diploma in Project Management via RPL.
Contact the friendly Australis College team and advise us that you are wanting to apply for recognition of prior learning (RPL). Tell us what qualification you are wanting RPL for and we will send you the relevant RPL Application Kit.
When you receive the RPL Application Kit you will need to read it thoroughly, complete your details, and refer to the units of competency that are outlined for the qualification. From the units listed you will need to identify those where you believe you are eligible for RPL. For those selected, we require supporting evidence to accompany your application. These supporting documents are outlined in the RPL Application Kit.
An Australis Trainer & Assessor will have a discussion with you regarding your skills and experiences while reviewing your application. If applicable they may interview you to validate your skills and knowledge, and advise you of any extra evidence required for the RPL process. Once this is completed we will be able to advise you of the outcome. In most cases, we will also outline any additional units of competency you will need to receive training in to complete to receive the full qualification.
For the units of competency you are deemed competent in through RPL you will have the choice of a receiving a statement of attainment or continuing on to the full qualification.
If you are advised that you need to complete additional units of competency, you will need to undertake gap training by enrolling in the regular Australis College course.
You are assessed as either competent or not competent against the units of competency for the qualification.
It is the job of the Australis College to provide support as you collect the evidence you need to demonstrate your competency against the required criteria.
If you aren’t eligible to gain RPL for all the units in your course you simply do some gap training via an online course to cover any knowledge and complete any unit/s you may need.
VET Student Loans is a Commonwealth Government loan scheme for students undertaking higher‑level VET (Vocational Education Training) qualifications i.e. diploma, advanced diploma, graduate certificate and graduate diploma courses.
This means if you are eligible, you can get the qualification you want now, and pay later.
Even better, quite often you can claim the education expense on tax even though you’ve paid for it via VET Student Loans (you should speak to your accountant to confirm).
Is a qualification gained via RPL viewed any differently than one gained in a classroom or online?
How long does the RPL process take?
You can speak to one of our trainers and assessors prior to enrolling. They will be able to help you establish how many units you may be able to gain RPL for without any upfront commitment on your behalf.
